Finishing Move: Five-star Frog Splash Career Highlights: Intercontinental Champion, World Tag Team Champion, Hardcore Champion, ECW Television Champion, ECW Tag Team Champion Many consider Rob Van Dam to be the finest WWE athlete to never hold the World Heavyweight or WWE Championship. But because of his incredible talent and work ethic, RVD’s reign at the top may not be far away. While competing for ECW, RVD combined his scintillating martial-arts skills and eye-popping maneuvers to develop a huge following that made his move to WWE enormously successful. At 6 foot, 220 pounds, RVD may not be the largest man in the ring, but he regularly brings the largest fight with him and as a result has excelled against Superstars nearly twice his size. When his alliance with Kane ended with a Chokeslam from the monster, RVD was not deterred to step into the ring with his former partner and hold his own. His quickness, strength, and ability to counter just about any move, combined with an incredible offensive arsenal from inside or above the ring make RVD not only dangerous, but very popular as well. Credit ProWrestling.com for the following (formated by me to fit this FAQ) Trained by: "The Original" Sheik / Sabu Alternate Names: Mr. Monday Night, Robbie V, Rob Zakowski Real Name: Rob Szatkowski Related To (Wrestling figures): none Debut Date: June 1991 The following was written by me and is my copyrighted work (in its format). Alternate Finishers: Van Daminator and Split Legged Moonsault (does both in Legends of Wrestling as regular moves) Rob Van Dam debuted in the mid '90s in ECW against Sabu. He was so good that he was signed to a WCW contract a few months later. He quickly left WCW and returned to ECW, where he became one of the true legends of hardcore. He competed for about a decade in ECW, even teaming with hardcore legend Sabu to win the ECW Tag Team Championship Belts. In 2001, ECW went out of business with Rob Van Dam holding the ECW TV Title. He was owed over a million dollars by ECW, which was owned by Paul Heyman. He never was paid that money. He signed a contract with the WWF. His WWF debut was against Jeff Hardy and he quickly won over the WWF fans, being even more hardcore than Jeff Hardy. During this time, Stephanie McMahon took over the operations of ECW, which appeared on WWF TV. Rob Van Dam was part of ECW during the rivalry which the ECW / WCW (operated by Shane McMahon) Alliance eventually lost to Vince McMahon's WWF. Legends of Wrestling came out at this time. Rob Van Dam was competing for the Hardcore Title over this period. In April 2002, there was a brand draft that saw Rob Van Dam get drafted to appear exclusively on Raw. Raw was to belong to Ric Flair, while Vince McMahon would own Smackdown. Rob Van Dam became the Intercontinental Champion at this time. At King of The Ring 2002, he fought to the finals of the King of the Ring tournament, eventually losing to Brock Lesnar. Brock Lesnar got the title shot at Summerslam for the WWE Undisputed Championship instead of Rob Van Dam. During the next month, Brock Lesnar feuded with Rob Van Dam. At Vengence 2002, RVD defeated Brock Lesnar via disqualification because Paul Heyman got Brock DQed. 8 days after that match, Rob lost his Intercontinental Championship Belt to Chris Benoit on an episode of Raw. Raw General Manager Eric Bischoff, who took over for Ric Flair after Flair lost his half ownership of the WWE in a match with Vince McMahon, ordered a rematch at Summerslam that would allow Rob Van Dam to attempt to regain the IC Title against new-Smackdown superstar, Chris Benoit. He won the match, which took 30 minutes and was considered to be a boring match by most of the fans, yet it was on the highlights show at the end of 2002. In September, Rob Van Dam got a title shot for the World Heavyweight Championship, Eric Bischoff's championship belt that replaced the Undisputed Title which was now exclusive to Smackdown. He won a Fatal 4 Way elimination match against 3 of the best Raw superstars. After losing his Intercontinental Championship again (this time to Chris Jericho), RVD battled Triple H at Unforgiven, where he came very close to beating Triple H but got screwed by his old enemy Ric Flair who had cost him the Undisputed Title a few months back. Rob Van Dam did not wrestle that much over the next few months, except for an appearance in the Elimination Chamber at Survivor Series. Around the beginning of 2003, he formed a tag team with Kane. After 2 months together, they faced Lance Storm & William Regal at No Way Out for the World Tag Team Championship. They lost that match because Kane chokeslammed Rob Van Dam while his mask was turned. Over the next month, they feuded with Lance Storm & Chief Morely, the new World Tag Team Champions, culminating in a Wrestlemania XIX Sunday Night Heat match for the World Tag Team Championship. They were the better team in the match, but Bubba Ray Dudley eventually made Lance Storm & Chief Morely win, while his brother D-Von Dudley was trying to make Kane & RVD win. Shortly after Wrestlemania XIX, Rob Van Dam & Kane faced a Triple Threat Tag Team Elimination Match against the Dudley Boyz and Lance Storm & Chief Morely. They won that match after they defeated the Dudley Boyz and then Lance Storm & Chief Morely. Their reign as World Tag Team Champions lasted about 2 months, during which they defeated the Legion of Doom (Animal & Hawk), one of the legendary tag teams. Both members of that team are in Legends of Wrestling. In June, RVD wrestled a member of La Resistance (a new tag team that preached anti-American things) in a flag match, which he was screwed out of. The next week, Kane wrestled the other member of La Resistance and was rolled up, losing the match. Stone Cold Steve Austin went down to the ring and told Kane to turn into a monster, again. Kane would not chokeslam Austin and got a Stone Cold Stunner. By Bad Blood, RVD and Kane were not getting along, anymore and they lost the Tag Team championships to the cheating La Resistance. The next night, they had a rematch for the Tag Team Titles and Kane chokeslammed every one around him after he got disqualified. Triple H, Randy Orton and Ric Flair went down to the ring and tried to recruit Kane for their faction, Evolution. Stone Cold Steve Austin also went to the ring. Austin offered Kane a title shot, while Evolution offered him membership in their faction. Kane got to chokeslam whoever he rejected. Eric Bischoff then announced that Kane would have to unmask if he lost the title shot. Kane chokeslammed Triple H. The next week, Kane was screwed out of the match with Triple H by Randy Orton, who gave him an RKO. Kane was slow to unmask, until Rob Van Dam was able to make it into the ring. RVD was chokeslammed after Kane unmasked. Over the next few weeks, Kane terrorized everyone, including RVD. Rob went on to get the match that almost everyone wanted, a match against Kane at Summerslam. At Summerslam, he fought hard, but still lost to Kane. The rivalry continued until Unforgiven a month later. RVD was challenging for the Intercontinental Title alongside what he was doing with Kane. Right before Unforgiven, he defeated Christian in a ladder match to become the IC Champion, again. RVD spent the next 3 months as Intercontinental Champion. At Survivor Series, he was one of 5 who lost a match where Stone Cold Steve Austin's job was on the line. The next month, he feuded with the "Legend Killer" Randy Orton, but at Armageddon, he lost the Intercontinental Championship to Orton. Rob Van Dam then competed in the Royal Rumble the following month, without much success. He formed a Tag Team with Booker T that defeated Ric Flair & Batista for the World Tag Team Titles. RVD & Booker T fought for a month against Flair & Batista and then they defended the Tag Team Titles against the Dudley Boyz, La Resistance and Jindrak & Cade at Wrestlemania 20. They won that match, but 8 days later they lost the titles to Ric Flair & Batista. RVD was then drafted by Smackdown. Booker T came over in a trade, but started calling Smackdown the "Minor Leagues." A few weeks after they joined Smackdown, Booker T betrayed RVD. RVD defeated Booker T by DQ in a match on Smackdown, but the feud stopped there. He has not wrestled that much in the last few weeks before I wrote this FAQ. Do you have any biographical information for Rob Van Dam, if so email me at big_time_games@yahoo.com . IV.RVD in Legends of Wrestling In Legends of Wrestling, RVD is one of the most hardcore wrestlers. He does flying moves and matches he is in are more entertaining to watch then most other wrestlers. He is best used against wrestlers like Sabu.
